I started Boss Tax Law to help business owners navigate tax disputes so you can focus on running your business and achieving your goals.
Throughout my time as an IRS agent, a CPA and a tax attorney, I’ve had the opportunity to be involved with many tax disputes, both on the side of the government as an IRS agent, as well as on the side of the business owner and taxpayer as a CPA and tax attorney.
How Tax Disputes Affect Business Owners
What I discovered is that there are two main ways that tax disputes can affect business owners: (1) physical bandwidth and (2) mental bandwidth.
Physical Bandwidth
First, tax disputes can affect your physical bandwidth.
It takes time to gather documents from years ago to prove what’s on your tax return to the IRS.
It takes time to work with your team to find those documents or maybe find additional documents or support you need to prove your case.
It takes time to meet with the IRS, even look into the tax law and understand what exactly is going on, or even just how the IRS rules and procedures work.
Mental Bandwidth
Second, tax disputes can affect your mental bandwidth.
Whenever I deal with business owners going through some sort of IRS issue, they seem to have in the back of their head wondering, how is this going to turn out? Am I going to owe money? What’s going to happen?
And those thoughts aren’t good for your business. You already have a full-time job running your business and dealing with a tax dispute just adds on top of that, both physically and mentally
How I help Business Owners
So I help business owners with both of these issues.
First, with the physical bandwidth issue, I work with your team to find all the necessary documents and support you need to prove your case to the IRS.
I correspond with the IRS, meet with any IRS agents or other representatives to take you through the process wherever you are, whether it’s just responding to a letter or notice from the IRS, representing you in an audit, or even going all the way to appeals or some tax litigation in court.
I also help with the mental bandwidth issue because it helps to know you have someone in your corner who has been there before, navigated the IRS and knows what they’re doing, which allows you to focus on running your business.
Why I’m Passionate About Tax Law
I also started Boss Tax Law just because I find tax interesting and I just enjoy helping business owners navigate the complexities of both the tax world and the IRS world.
Ever since my first undergraduate federal income tax accounting class, I’ve found tax law extremely interesting and have wanted to learn more.
Throughout my time at the IRS, I learned what it was like to work at the IRS and also all that many different sorts of small businesses and lots of businesses probably like yourself. Everything from large manufacturing companies to consultants to small mom and pop businesses.
And as a CPA, I really learned in-depth how to prepare tax returns and how to comply with the tax laws.
And now as a tax attorney, I focus on helping business owners navigate tax disputes with the IRS as well as state and local governments.
