Careers at Boss Tax Law
Tax Resolution Specialist
Enrolled Agent or CPA · Remote (U.S.) · 15–20 hours/week, with growth to full-time if desired — and a path to owning your own caseload.
Apply Now →Boss Tax Law represents individuals and businesses in disputes with the IRS and state tax authorities — collections, penalty abatement, appeals, and U.S. Tax Court. Our content and referral pipeline generates more resolution work than one attorney can carry, and we’re looking for an experienced, credentialed practitioner to take ownership of it.
You’ll work directly with the firm’s owner — not a call center, not a resolution mill — and go on client Forms 2848 as a representative acting on the firm’s behalf. If you’re an experienced resolution professional who wants to run matters and plug into a growing brand without building your own book of business, this is built for you.
The Path
Where this role goes
We’re explicit about the trajectory, because it shapes who we’re looking for.
Start
Own the IRS-facing work — representation calls, transcripts, financial analysis, and investigation workups — handing clean, decision-ready matters to the attorney.
Grow into
Carry matters end-to-end. Run the investigation, drive the resolution strategy (installment agreements, OICs, penalty abatement, CDP), and move matters to closure under the attorney’s oversight.
Lead
As your track record grows, become the person who owns a book of resolution matters — the operational backbone of a growing firm.
The Work
What you’ll own
- IRS & state representation calls — the Practitioner Priority Service line, Revenue Officers, Appeals Officers, TAS, and state authorities (several every week).
- Collections investigation & resolution — account analysis, Forms 433-A/B, and resolution strategy from workup through closure.
- Transcript retrieval & account monitoring — flagging CSEDs, expiring holds, compliance gaps, and anything time-sensitive.
- Penalty & interest computations — including disaster-period and abatement scenarios, with supporting schedules.
- Matter throughput — keeping your matters moving so nothing stalls, and increasingly resolving them yourself.
The Fit
Who this is ideal for
- An experienced EA or CPA (typically 5+ years) who has personally carried IRS collections matters to resolution — investigations, RO and Appeals negotiations, closed installment agreements, OICs, and abatements.
- Someone who wants to own a caseload, not just complete tasks, and grow into a lead role as the firm grows.
- A practitioner who wants the work without the business development — our content engine feeds the pipeline; you do what you’re good at.
- Motivated by outcomes — you take satisfaction in moving matters to closure and welcome comp that rewards resolutions, not just hours.
Probably not the right fit if you want primarily tax-preparation work, prefer well-defined tasks with someone else owning the outcome, or aren’t interested in growing into a lead role.
The Offer
Compensation & details
$40–$50 / hour base
Commensurate with experience (W-2 employee).
15–20 hours/week
A real, consistent weekly load — not scraps.
Growth to full-time
Grow into a full-time, caseload-owning role if you want it, as the caseload expands.
Fully remote (U.S.)
Work from anywhere in the U.S., with a short introductory period to confirm the fit.
